Jean Ann Wilson, a long-time nursing instructor and coordinator at the Colby Community College Norton campus, was recently selected as a volunteer item writer for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) Licensure Examination (NCLEX). It is the fifth time she has been chosen to write for the NCLEX.

NCSBN, headquartered in Chicago, is responsible for developing and administering the NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN licensing exams.

Wilson was approved by the Kansas Board of Nursing and selected by NCSBN to participate on the NCLEX item development panel of subject matter experts that was held in Chicago, Ill., on August 31-Sept. 3, 2015.

She was one of nine nurses from across the nation to be selected for this assignment.  Wilson was nominated on the basis of clinical specialty and nursing expertise.

All nurses in the United States and its four territories must take the NCLEX.  The licensing exam identifies those candidates who demonstrate minimal competence to practice nursing at the entry level.  Passing the NCLEX exam is one of the requirements necessary for attaining a nursing license.

A native of Almena, Wilson has been an instructor at CCC for 36 years. “I have taught 107 semesters -- three each year,” she said. I love my job.”

She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Fort Hays State University and earned her Nurse Clinician Certificate from the University of Kansas Branch at Wichita State University. 

“Jean Ann has a tremendous amount of knowledge and this honor is a testament to her expertise and accomplishments in the field,” said CCC president Seth Carter. “Our students are fortunate to learn under her leadership and guidance.”
