Colby Community College is not an English as a Second Language (ESL) certified school
and students are expected to be able to complete their coursework in English. However,
the College will take reasonable steps to ensure that persons with Limited English
Proficiency (LEP) have
meaningful access and an equal opportunity to participate in our services, activities,
programs and other benefits. The policy of Colby Community College is to ensure meaningfulcommunication
with students with LEP, including individuals with hearing impairments, and
their authorized representatives involving their medical conditions and treatment.
The policy also provides for communication of information contained in vital documents,

All staff will be provided notice of this policy and procedure, and staff that may have direct contact with individuals with LEP will be trained in effective communication techniques, including the effective use of an interpreter and/or interpreter software.

their parents or representatives with disabilities access to learning and activities
in and out of the classroom. They include but are not limited to: sign language interpreters,
real time captioning services, adaptive technology, alternative media, exam accommodations,
etc. Students requesting adaptive equipment or sign language interpreters must request
these services in a timely manner (preferably 6 months in advance) giving the Institution
