The 2015-16 Colby Community College women’s cross country team earned recognition
for their classroom performance as the National Junior College Athletic Association
recently named them an Academic Team of the Year.
The Lady Trojans posted the highest grade point average in the nation for their sport,
combining for a 3.74 mark.
“Congratulations to Coach Rieth, Coach Obermeyer and the ladies on this prestigious
honor,” said Director of Athletics Ryan Sturdy. “It is a remarkable accomplishment
to maintain such a high GPA while being a student-athlete.”
Several other CCC sports earned honorable mention by assembling a 3.0 GPA. Colby’s
softball (3.53), volleyball (3.46), baseball (3.12), women’s indoor and outdoor track
and field (3.07), and men’s cross country (3.0) teams made the list.
“These teams have set the academic standard for all others to strive for,” Sturdy
added.
