Colby native Jaton Denneler will be the featured artist at Studio Friday on Dec. 5 at Colby Community College. Denneler will be demonstrating Zentangle which is an abstract drawing created using repetitive patterns.
The event will be held from 9 a.m.–12 noon and from 1-3 p.m. in Ferguson Hall, Rooms #502 and #503.
Denneler, a graduate of Colby High School and Colby Community College, decorates and stages homes. She also works at Inlow Interiors where she stages the store and decorates the display window.
“I didn’t really know that I was doing Zentangle until Alice Wolf saw my art and said it looked like Zen,” said Denneler. “My inspiration comes from my mood. I truly just close my eyes and ‘scribble’ what I see in my mind.”
Denneler says she sees designs in everything and takes photos of things to draw.
“I get ideas but never copy it exactly,” said Denneler. “Everything around us is full of designs so it is never-ending. I love color.”
Denneler has sold two of her works.
“It’s very addictive to me. Hours go by before I know it. My kids love what I do and expect one for Christmas. They are both married with kids and live in eastern Kansas,” Denneler said.
Participants do not need to bring supplies unless they have a favorite sketch pad or pens and markers.
There is no charge to participate. For more information, contact CCC art instructor Rebel Jay at 785.269.7065.
