Colby Community College instructor and counselor Ryan Hale will host the first documentary screening of the semester on Tuesday, Sept. 9, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Cultural Arts Center located on the southeast corner of campus. There is no charge to attend.
The documentary film Living On One Dollar follows four college students as they embark on an adventure in Guatemala and attempt to live on less than $1 per day.
“Worldwide, over 1.1 billion people live on less than $1 per day,” said Hale. “The participants in this film experience hunger, parasites, financial stress and the uncertainty that comes with not knowing how they will make it through the next day surviving on only one dollar.”
Living On One Dollar was the winner of “Best Documentary” and “Outstanding Directorial Debut” in 2013. The screening was sold out in 20 major cities and it recorded 700,000 YouTube views in the first month it was released.
