Colby Community College freshman Maja Jankovic was named by the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) as the Division I Defensive Player of the Week in consecutive weeks. The selections mark the third and fourth times she has been recognized this season.
Jankovic was the Player of the Week in week eight – when the Lady Trojans had matches against four nationally ranked teams. During that time she notched 95 digs and 5.6 digs per set. Offensively, she added nine assists and three aces.
Week nine Colby had three conference matches and Jankovic continued to be strong on the back row. She tallied 64 digs, 10 assists and 6 aces.
This season the 5’7” libero from Ruma, Serbia, is fourth in the Jayhawk Conference in digs (581) and digs per set (5.93).
After Wednesday’s four-set victory over Butler Community College, Jankovic and the Lady Trojans carry a three-game winning streak into Friday’s final home game against Dodge City. Their regular season ends Oct. 29 in Hutchinson before entering the first round of the playoffs.
