The Colby Community College men’s indoor track team competed at the Texas Tech Red Raider Open on Saturday, Feb. 2.  The Trojans added five more national qualifiers at the meet.  In addition, two new school records were set.

The 4×400 meter relay team of Johnathan Stiles, Aaron Lecesne, Ashley Riley and Fabian Hayles set a new school record with a time of 3:17.80.  In addition, Jonathan Burgess set a new 3000-meter record with a time of 8:38.66.

“Coach Newbold is doing a great job with our sprinters,” said Head Coach James Ortiz.  “These guys are going after all the sprint records this season.”

Additional national qualifiers at the Red Raider event include Johnathan Stiles, 400 meter (49.89); Brandon Parson (600 yard), 1:15.52; Peter Koskey, 1000 meter (2:34.82), and Juan Pacheco, 5000 meter (15:24.38).

“We got back on track and had numerous personal bests over the weekend,” said Coach Ortiz.  “The pieces are coming together.

“Our focus the next two weeks is to be the best we can be for the Region VI Championships.”

The next meet for the men’s team is the Region VI Championships on Feb. 15 in Lawrence.  The Trojans finished in 7th place last year with 70 points.  That was the best finish in school history.
