Ten Colby Community College students attended the annual Kansas Farm Bureau Young
Farmers & Ranchers Leaders Conference Jan. 29-31 in Manhattan.
Attending the conference were Clay Patton, Chelsie Calliham, Micah Baehler, Marci
Glennemeier, Seth Bredemeier, Shaelyn Akers, Janell Ptacek, Elizabeth Krajewski, Kara
Dysinger and Kelsey Simpson. They joined delegates from 13 other Kansas college and
university Farm Bureau chapters to listen to presentations and tour a number of facilities,
including the Kansas Department of Agriculture, the Wheat Innovation Center, the K-State
Veterinary Diagnostics Lab and the K-State Dairy Unit.
Schools competed in a quiz bowl that covered a wide variety of agriculture topics.
The team of Baehler, Glennemeier, Krajewski, and Bredemeier finished second out of
16 teams.
Kansas Farm Bureau was established in 1919 and has at least one association in every
county in the state.
Advisors for the CCC chapter are Shanda and Caleb Mattix.
“The annual YF&R conference is always a highlight for our collegiate chapter,” said
Shanda Mattix. “We are fortunate to have a great working relationship with the Thomas
County Farm Bureau Association and they are very supportive of our collegiate projects.
We would like to thank them for their sponsorship to attend this year's conference.”
