A piece of history will be added to the shelves of the H.F. Davis Memorial Library on April 13. Dr. Richard Mosier, the first President of Colby Community College, will be signing his recently published book Against All Odds on Friday, April 13, beginning at 3 p.m. in the H.F. Davis Library.

The book is a history of the start of the college including the triumphs and tragedies in its infancy. Tara Schroer, Library Director, is hosting the book signing.

“We are pleased and proud to have Dr. Mosier back on the CCC campus and the library for this event,” said Schroer. “His book chronicles how CCC came to be and highlights the hard work and perseverance of many community members to make this college what it is today.”

Dr. Mosier served as the chief executive officer of the college from 1966-1972. Primary sources for the writing of the book were minutes of the Board of Trustees for the period, articles that appeared in the Prairie Drummer, Oberlin Times Herald, the Colby Free Press Tribune, personal recollections and accounts, and Dr. Mosier’s own memory of events and happenings during his presidency.

Following his tenure at CCC, Dr. Mosier served as president of Claremore Junior College and its successor institution Rogers State College for nearly 24 years. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame in October 1996 in recognition of his outstanding achievement and meritorious service to higher education in Oklahoma. Upon his retirement, he was designated President Emeritus at both Rogers State College, the successor institution to Rogers State and Colby Community College.

Dr. Mosier will be available to sign books, and copies of the book will be available for purchase at that time. For more information, please contact Schroer at 460-5487.
