Colby Community College freshman Lexi David (Goodland) was recently notified that she is one of 28 college students selected from Kansas to participate in the Kansas Collegiate Law Enforcement Academy May 15-18.
The academy is hosted by the Kansas Highway Patrol at their training facility in Salina.
Criminal justice students from many of the colleges and universities in the state apply for this prestigious program. The Kansas Collegiate Law Enforcement Academy program offers students from colleges the opportunity to experience Training Academy life before entering a career in law enforcement.
Criminal justice programs from Kansas colleges work with the Kansas Highway Patrol to provide this real-world experience. Students must complete an application and physical prior to attending the three-day event.
Letters of nomination from criminal justice director Dr. Michael Thompson and Dean of Academics Joyce Washburn were submitted to the Academy. In addition, David was sponsored by Colby police officer Jerad Lange.
“This is the fifth year that one of our students has been chosen for the Academy,” said Thompson. “It is an honor to be selected. We are very proud of her accomplishment.”
