Colby Community College men’s basketball players Hassan Attia and Brian and Starr received recognition by the Jayhawk Conference and Region VI for their play this season.

The 6’10”, 270-pound Attia was named Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) Division I Co-Defensive Player of the Year with Hutchinson’s Keanu Pinder. Attia, from Alexandria, Egypt, was also named KJCCC Honorable Mention and Region VI Honorable Mention. He averaged 8.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game, and led the conference with 60 blocked shots. After graduating in May he will transfer to the University of Hartford, a Division I school in West Hartford, Conn.

Starr, a 6’3” point guard, was named KJCCC First Team and All-Region VI First Team. The Kansas City, Mo., sophomore led the Trojans in points (14.3) and assists (7.1) per game, and also averaged 5. 6 rebounds. Starr is scheduled to graduate in May and has not decided where he will play next season.

“Both of these guys are deserving of their awards,” said head coach Rusty Grafel. “They have great teammates that helped them, and together they made this program better and accomplished things that haven't been done here in a long time.”

Players were nominated by their coaches and voted on by opposing coaches, who did not vote for their own players. The complete All-Conference list can be found at http://kjccc.org/sports/mbkb/2015-16/2015-16_Postseason_Honors.
