Colby Community College Head Softball Coach Steve Kinnett notched his 300th career victory on March 9 against Pratt Community College.
Kinnett, now in his eleventh season with the Trojans softball program, came to Colby from Bailey, Colo., after retiring from a 25-year career as a contractor. He brought more than 420 wins with various "A" travel clubs in Colorado and a winning percentage over .700.
In his Colby tenure, Kinnett was named the 2019 Jayhawk Conference Coach of the Year after his club won the program's first regular season conference title while posting a national best 3.67 grade point average among 131 colleges. The 2020 Trojans repeated as conference champions with a 3.66 GPA. Each year, his teams can be seen in the community assisting organizations such as Special Olympics, the Colby After School Program, and various Colby Recreation Department activities.
"I want to thank CCC for the opportunity and support the college has given me to be a part of the Colby softball program," said Kinnett. "Also, thank you to all of the previous and current players who have helped achieve the success of the program. I'll always cherish all the wonderful memories and friendships created through this wonderful sport of softball."
