Colby Community College band instructor Michelle Meyer has been selected as the 2020 Northwest Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA) Outstanding College Music Educator.
A Kansas native, Meyer is in her fifteenth year of teaching and seventh at CCC. She is responsible for directing three bands, teaches classes in applied studies and aural skills, and has served as a CCC mentor teacher and faculty advisor. In her tenure at Colby, she has helped facilitate professional development opportunities for area music teachers and reestablished the Colby Community Band that performs during the summer.
Under her direction, the CCC Jazz Ensemble opened for the Flatland Big Band in 2017. Her students have performed with visiting military bands such as the U.S. Army Field Band and Chorus, the Navy Band, and the Jazz Ambassadors. She also established the National Association for Music Education Collegiate Chapter at CCC.
Apart from the college, she is an active clinician and adjudicator for the tristate area.
