The next Colby Community College art show will feature works by award-winning mixed-media collage artist Marica Bauerle from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Prairie Museum of Art and History. The show runs through Nov. 7.

Ceramic pieces from local artists Bette Albers, Jeanne Cox, Janet Hopson, Maradith Molstad and John Sanders will also be displayed.

Bauerle's art involves layered images of sunflowers, aerial landscapes, and abstracts with a sense of mystery that often include literary, spiritual, or musical references. She is a member of Impact Nebraska Artists, the Art Society of Ogallala, and the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs. Her work is shown in galleries, tasting rooms, hospitals, and competitions throughout the Midwest.

Raised in Stafford, Kan., and now a resident of Imperial, Neb., Bauerle earned a degree in housing and design at Kansas State University. She holds teaching certification from Arizona State University with an art endorsement 20 years later from the University of Nebraska Kearney. Teaching and substituting experience includes Arizona and Nebraska public schools, private and group art workshops, and occasional courses at Mid-Plains Community College.

Her husband's Air Force and airline career took them to Arizona, Texas, Florida, Utah, and Germany, before settling in Imperial.

According to Bauerle, she keeps up with aging parents, three grown children, four grandchildren, plays piano for her church, reads, walks, and tries to paint every day, or at least whenever life allows.

Food and drinks will be offered at the art show. Masks are encouraged. For more information, contact Rebel Mahieu at (785) 460-5459.
