The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) honored the Colby Community College baseball squad with the Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2017-18 season, the organization announced. Nationally, Colby is just one of 21 two-year programs to make the list.
The award recognizes high school and college teams coached by ABCA members that post a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 for the academic year. The Trojans finished with a 3.28 GPA.
“It’s a great honor when our athletic teams are recognized for their academic accomplishments,” said Vice President of Academic Affairs Brad Bennett. “We are extremely proud of their hard work in the classroom.”
On the field, CCC finished with a 31-24 record and advanced to the Central District playoffs for the first time since 2013. Six players made all-conference teams.
The Trojans are coached by Ryan Carter, who is preparing to enter his 21st season leading the program. He is assisted by second-year coach Josh Oller.
