Colby Community College softball players Alexis Andersen, Kylee Burnside and Kaitlynn Withers have been named to the Division I Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference All-Conference first team for their play in 2017.
Andersen, a sophomore catcher from Clinton, Utah, was second on the team with a .428 batting average. She hit 10 home runs and was tied for third in the conference with 63 RBIs. In February she was named the KJCCC Division I player of the week when she hit .462 with three home runs and drove in 18. Next season she will play for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
A sophomore pitcher, Burnside posted a 15-10 record and a 3.84 ERA. The Idaho Falls, Idaho native was second in the conference with 32 appearances, and her 152 strikeouts ranked fifth best. Offensively, she hit .444 in conference play. In November she signed a National Letter of Intent to play at Metropolitan State University in Denver.
“Kylee and Lexi were our pitcher-catcher battery this year and led the team by example,” said head coach Steve Kinnett. “It will be exciting to follow them the next two years in the RMAC.”
Withers was second in the nation with 63 stolen bases, which also led the conference and set a school record. The freshman outfielder from Riverton, Utah was third in the conference with a .474 batting average and second with 83 hits. She also led her team with 63 runs scored.
“Katie had a fantastic year both offensively and defensively,” Kinnett said. “It will be exciting to see what she can accomplish next year as a sophomore!”
