Faculty Profile

Dr. Johnson joined the Colby Community College faculty in the fall of 2024. In 2026, she was recognized with the Tangeman Award for Teaching Excellence.

Originally from Lindsborg, Kansas, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Hood College and both a bachelor’s degree and Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the National University of Health Sciences. Joan is a licensed chiropractor in Illinois and Kansas and previously owned and operated Antioch Family Chiropractic and Mission Chiro First Responders. During the final five years of her 30-year private practice career in Illinois, she managed both practices simultaneously. Through Mission Chiro, she provided mobile chiropractic care and support to first responders throughout the state.

Outside the classroom, she enjoys half-marathon running, canicross, western horseback riding, and walking throughout Colby. Her husband is Brian Pederson.
