Early Childhood/Elementary Education
Early Childhood/Early Elementary Education
Program Summary
CCC courses in the field of education are chosen to fulfill requirements of four-year institutions in the state. Students are urged to check with specific colleges and universities.
The education advisor assists students in completing the general education requirements of the college to which he or she plans to transfer for a bachelor's degree.
CCC students successfully completing courses of study in the teacher education area are awarded the Associate of Arts degree.
“Colby Community College provided me with the solid foundation I needed to be successful in college. Specifically, my education classes with Carolyn May and my child development classes with Krista Carter solidified my passion to teach ‘when I grew up.’ It was because of caring teachers like them that I realized education was the right fit for me.”
--Maret Schrader, 2017 Kansas Teacher of the Year finalist
It is predicted the United States will need to fill nearly 1 million teaching positions
as current teachers reach retirement age. High demand areas include those requiring
special training in math and science, English as a Second Language, assisting those
with special needs, and working within schools serving a significant percentage of
students from low-income situations.
